“ Came here as part of a Secret Foods of Venice walking food tour. This stop included a delicious seafood risotto, paired with a refreshing glass of Prosecco. We didn't get to sample beyond this, but just based on what we had, I'd come back again to sample other items on their menu. ”
“ Excellent food, good service. Great place for cicchetti. Make a reservation if you're coming after 6 ”
“ We met the owner next door at the Ve(ry)nice Beershop the day before. He told us we needed to come to his restaurant and took us inside to arrange it. We showed up and his chef and staff put together a family style seafood tour de force. One of the best meals I've had. The starter plate alone was full of such unusual and delicious seafood, that I still think about it. Stop by during the day for cicchetti and a drink as well. ”
“ This gem was recommended to us by our tour guide, Sara, and it was simply amazing. We showed up around 6:30 without reservations and Chicca (pronounced Kikka), the delightful and spunky waitress, asked if we would mind sharing a table. We did not mind at all. And it turned out to be a very good thing, but I will share why later on. First the food: we started out with Cicchettis that Chicca helped me pick out from the front counter. The Prosecco that I had with them paired so nicely. My husband ordered the Tagliatelle alla Busara di Scampi, I got the Linguine alla Scoguera (seafood: mussels, clams, scallops). Simply amazing - wow For dessert hubby had the Ameretto Custard and I had the Panna Cotta. In heaven!!! Now on to the sharing the table but, Chicca said she was bringing us some new friends and another couple joined us. They happened to be from Japan... I grew up in Japan and I ended up translating Japanese to English to help them place their order with Chicca. And then we just started chatting and by the end of the evening we were exchanging email addresses. Friendship born. Thanks Chicca. ”
“ Wanting to try Cicchetti (tapas) I heard about this place from some food and travel blogs and reading the reviews I had to try it. Osteria al Portego did not disappoint. Not being able to speak Italian I didn't want to call for a reservation in case of miscommunication so I do what works best for me, show up early before opening. I was able to speak to someone before opening and they said come back at noon. I was seated at the table made out of the wine barrel. I ordered Sarde in Saor (fried sardines w/ vinegar, raisins, onions, & pine nuts), Baccalà Mantecanto (dried cod whipped w/ evoo), Polenta e Schie (shrimp & polenta), and Bigoli in Salsa (pasta in salt-cured fish & onions). I'm not a big fish eater so 4 seafood dishes kinda overwhelmed me. The sarde in saor and baccalà mantecanto came out first. The sardines were surprisingly good, better than I expected. The whipped cod was good on the bread provided. Then came the shrimp and polenta. The shrimp were tiny little things and kinda briny but that evened out with the polenta. A good dish. The pasta with fish and onions was also very good. And even though I don't drink I even had a small glass of the house spritzer. If I had more time in Venezia I would have come back for more Cicchetti. I was glad to have read about and eat at Osteria al Portego. ”
